About
Kyle Conner, CFRE
Certified Fundraising Executive. Six years of frontline development work at small and mid-sized nonprofits. Creator of the Fundraising Writing Filter and The Development Director's First Year.
Kyle Conner spent six years as a development director before he started teaching. That matters because the frameworks in his course and the rules in his writing filter came from actual donor relationships — not from reading about them.
The Fundraising Writing Filter started as a personal system. Kyle noticed that AI-assisted donor letters had a detectable pattern: the wrong words in the wrong order, passive constructions where active ones belonged, structural tells that read like a content generator rather than a person who knew the donor. He built a set of rules to catch and remove those patterns before anything went out the door. The filter is that system, made available free.
The Development Director's First Year course came from a different problem. First-year development directors at small nonprofits inherit programs without documentation, boards without training, and donor lists without context. The frameworks Kyle teaches — the audit, the retention system, the 12-month plan, the board engagement menu — are the tools he built to work inside those constraints.
Kyle holds the Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) credential from CFRE International. He works with small and mid-sized nonprofits.
